Mardi Gras 2012

Crew of Arabi
Mardi Gras has come and gone....What fun!
When I was a kid, I can remember the floats lining up at the Hi-Li (JAI ALAI) Club down the street. We were so lucky to catch the beginning and the end of it!! We always had a big crowd of people over to the house. All the kids would get in the back of my parents big black Blazer. They would open the back and bundle us up with blankets to stay warm. We would catch so much stuff! Oh, how I wish they still lined up there! I really miss those days! I have never been a huge Mardi Gras fan, but I guess having a child now, makes me want to see it through his little eyes!

610 Stompers/Thoth Sunday
We are very lucky to have great friends who live on the Thoth parade route! Each year they have a get together that out does the year before! The food is always restaurant quality, he is an amazing chef in disguise! She is the perfect hostess with a great sense of style and a contagious laugh! We had a huge amount of food this year, like every, but I can't get one dish out of my head!!! Chicken Sauce Piquant! I had never heard of it before this day! It was so delicious, that I can't stop thinking about it, (really, I'm obsessed) so I will be attempting to make it soon! I just hope it comes out half as good as his! A sincere thank you to our great friends! We love you guys!!! :)

Victory Garden

Victory Garden at The National WWII Museum

Victory gardens, also called war gardens or food gardens for defense, were vegetable, fruit and herb gardens planted at private residences and public parks in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada during World War I and World War II to reduce the pressure on the public food supply brought on by the war effort. In addition to indirectly aiding the war effort these gardens were also considered a civil "morale booster" — in that gardeners could feel empowered by their contribution of labor and rewarded by the produce grown. This made victory gardens become a part of daily life on the home front.
My Mom...My Hero recently became a Master Gardner! One of her projects is the Victory Garden at the WWII Museum. What a peaceful, beautiful little place. Every week she goes, along with two of her friends...Rose and Susie. They have breakfast at The Soda Shop then walk over to the garden. What a great thing to be a part of!!! I'm so proud of you Mom!

Girl's Night...SYLVAIN

Me, Tamara, Nancy, Gretchen, and Kaki
Thursday was our Girl's Night at Sylvain...we try to get together once every other month!
What a fun time we had together...Such a strong bond and great energy! I always feel empowered after our night out! I feel lucky to be part of such a talented group! I love you ladies!
What a great little piece of history Sylvain is! A lovely little building that is tucked away. I felt as though Tennessee Williams would show up for a late dinner. Sylvain has a great vibe! The staff was super nice and attentive!
The food and cocktails were amazing...
We shared the fried eggplant, the shaved brussels sprout salad, roasted beet bruschetta the daily fish special and a cheese plate. Everything was great!!

So as the night went on, we drank and talked...the subject of glasses came up, as we all seem to need readers now...
Me
Here I am with glasses! I have never found a pair that looks good on me...I always look like Lisa Loeb! (it's true) I guess if I need them these would work!
Thanks Kaki for letting me play!

Spontaneity

Do you ever change your plans at the last moment? Just decide to do something totally random...when you have a prior engagement?
Well Tiger and I did the other night & it was great! We went to a movie at Canal Place-SO fun!!!!
The last movie we saw in a theater was "The King's Speech"!
